At Yushikai Karate Academy, we take immense pride in our affiliation with the Japan Karate Association (JKA) through JKA England, the leading JKA organisation in the UK. This affiliation not only strengthens our commitment to traditional karate but also provides our students with unique opportunities to compete on the world stage.

Recently, we had the honour of sending three of our talented members—Harrison Langridge, Helena Chan, and Jamie Langridge—to represent JKA England at the prestigious Funakoshi Gichin Cup World Championship held in Takasaki, Japan. This championship, renowned for its competitive standards, takes place every three years and draws nearly 2000 competitors from across the globe, showcasing the true spirit of karate.

Harrison, Helena, and Jamie competed in both individual kata and kumite events, with Harrison also taking part in the team kata and team kumite divisions. Although the team did not bring home any medals, the experiences gained and the performances delivered were invaluable. Competing at such a high level against the best in the world is an achievement in itself and a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Sensei Dave accompanied the team as one of the official England coaches, providing guidance and support throughout the competition. His presence was instrumental in ensuring that our athletes were prepared to face the challenges of the event.

Beyond the competition, the team had the opportunity to explore the vibrant culture of Tokyo, visit the iconic Mt. Fuji, and pay their respects to the late Enoeda Sensei at his shrine. These experiences enriched their journey, deepening their appreciation for the traditions and values that underpin karate.

In a landscape filled with various championships, often lacking diverse representation, the Funakoshi Gichin Cup stands out as a true testament to the global spirit of karate. We are proud to be part of such a significant event and to uphold the high standards that come with competing at this level.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to fostering the growth of our students and providing them with opportunities to excel. Together, we will continue to uphold the values of discipline, respect, and perseverance that define Yushikai Karate Academy.
