The Yushikai Karate Academy has been teaching traditional Shotokan Karate for 14 years. We have a large membership from white belts to black belts aged from 5 to 60. We have an open door policy and encourage children and women, beginners and advanced students.
We have a long record of technical excellence and competitive success but we also focus on all aspects of shotokan karate including self-defence, strength, flexibility and general fitness.
JKA ENGLAND
The Japan Karate Association of England (JKAE) is a steadily growing association of karate clubs formed in 2003 as the official England branch of the Japan Karate Association (JKA), "Keepers of karate's highest tradition".
The primary objective of the Association is to teach and foster the development of authentic JKA Karate. This will be achieved under the leadership of Sensei Ohta and by way of regular training courses, gradings and championships.
JKAE objectives are:
- To Promote, teach and practise traditional JKA Karate
- Organise and regulate JKA Karate gradings, training sessions, events and championships
- Provide members with such services and support as may be available through their membership of JKAE.
- Do all such other things as are incidental and or conducive to the furtherance of the objects of JKAE.
The JKAE website is a regularly updated and invaluable source of information about the association, its news, events and administrative information. You can also download membership application and renewal forms as well as booking forms and directions for many events organised by the association.

Based in Tokyo, Japan, the JKA has branches and dojos worldwide and is one of the oldest and most prestigious karate associations in the world. The JKA has an unrivalled reputation for quality of teaching and senior instructors often visit the UK to teach at national and regional courses.
The JKA website has a detailed description of its history and heritage and an explanation of the organisation with links to worldwide branches.
SENSEI OHTA
After graduating from Takushoku University, Sensei Ohta attended the famous JKA Instructors Course. From 1982 to 2003 he was assistant to Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda in the UK, during which time he built an international following and reputation. Sensei Ohta is without doubt one of the most popular and technically sound Shotokan Instructors in the world.
As Chief Instructor of JKA England, Sensei Ohta is a regular visitor to the Yushikai Karate Academy, where he conducts special training courses and gradings for our members.
At present, Sensei Ohta is the only Instructor in England with the authority to award a JKA Black Belt. |
